Note that dating and attributing antique Asian objects is a difficult process as most items lack distinct histories of ownership. And experts may disagree regarding the same item. We have prepared these descriptions with the intent to be as accurate as possible. And we have taken photographs under natural light conditions in many cases from a variety of angels with the intent to enable potential buyers to inspect the object as if in person. Very large photos are offered at our main site as well. However these objects are explicitly exempt from our general warranty as detailed in the "Terms and Condition" and potential buyers should bid accordingly.

The labels on the bottom are from top London dealers in Asian antiquities and can be a very reliable guide to authenticity. These labels appear to have been there for some time and possible date the work to its sale in London to mid 20th century or possibly earlier (Sparks moved into the Mount Street address in 1926). Underneath the labels is a distinct mark probably from the kiln. Unfortunately I am not an expert in these marks, but research with the proper experts might be rewarding. Here is a link to the notes about the Sparks Gallery, a very prominent dealer in Chinese antiquities, from the National Gallery Washington. The Sparks Gallery by its reputation would have handled only legitimate works. As noted the archives of this gallery are in a London museum where a diligent search might reveal more about the work.https://www.asia.si.edu/collections/downloads/Sparks-John.pdfThe "R.B" as stands for the initials Richard Bennett a prominent 19th century Liverpool collector.
