,
- Condition: These works are in generally good condition with minor areas of inpainting at several spots on each face and in other areas as well. The canvas which is vintage is in generally good condition.
- Size: 20 by 16 in. (50 x 40 cm.) each
- Provenance: From a Sherman Oaks, Ca. collection.
- Framing: Sold framed
- Note: TThis pair of royal portraits thought to be of King Philip IV and Queen Isabella (his first wife and queen) have been popular subjects by talented artists over the centuries and are related to the portraits painted by Rubens when he spent time in Spain on a diplomatic mission to reduce tensions between Spain and Holland. The King's portrait with full beard along with his trademark handlebar mustache is similar to others by Rubens. The present painting of Queen Isabella is based on the work from around 1628/29 in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna. Two images of the original Rubens portraits are shown for comparison purposes.
