"Si Resucitara" Plate 80 From "Los Desastres De La Guerra",Guerra (Disasters Of War)"

etching, drypoint and aquatint on wove paper,, 1810-1820 printed c. 1896, , from a set with 'SECUNDA EDICION' noted on the cover, possibly later edition as from a set in published in black and white boards and the title sheet referring to the second edition ,,

  • Condition:In generally very good condition, the full sheet, the tab at the left remaining where attached to the portfolio.
  • Sheet: 9 7/8 by 13 11/16 in. (235 x 333 mm.) cm)
  • Plate: 6 3/4 in. × 8 1/2 in. (173 × 213 cm)
  • References: Recorded and illustrated in the standard text on Goya's original etchings by Harris, No. 200iii; Delteil 200.
  • Note: Desastres de la Guerra (Disasters of War) was one of four sets of prints illustrating the horrors of war then raging in Europe and the follies of 18th century Spain with its religious, social and political upheavals. Desastres de la Guerra was not published during the artist's lifetime due to the controversial subject matter in the era of the inquisition. The name by which the series is known today is not Goya's own. His handwritten title on an album of proofs given to a friend reads: "Fatal consequences of Spain's bloody war with Bonaparte, and other emphatic caprices (Spanish: Fatales consequencias de la sangrienta guerra en España con Buonaparte, Y otros caprichos enfáticos)"(source: Wikipedia).

This a well printed plate from an early edition with the lines clear and distinct. There is little if any aquatint used by Goya in this plate. The title clear and sharp, the number upper left only slightly less faint than the first edition and proofs. The sheet tabs left side retained.
