, The blocks were cut by the artist and each print was hand printed by the artist as noted by the annotation "eigen druk".
- Condition: In very good condition in the image area, with remains of tape three places verso in the margins, with an area "made up" at the right margin but not affecting the image area or signature. With some very faint staining, not generally visible, most likely from the original backmounting.Please note the sheet is rectangular; the "out-of-square" image in the photo is a result of the shooting angle when photographed.

Note:Most likely this is one of the first impressions of this rare color woodcut as the Whyte Gallery ceased operation around 1956. Whyte opened the first exhibition of Escher prints in 1954, selling about 100 prints (See Locher-Bool p.74). Mr. and Mrs. Whyte visited Escher in Holland during their brief period representing the artist and while on an interesting all day trip to Belgium by helicopter, Escher drew a mosaic design in Mrs. Whyte's diary.
