    (Masquerade ...)

oil on linen, ?, bears signature lower right, dated 1898, ,

  • Condition: In generally good condition, possibly some restorations. With an elaborate period frame with some losses to the edge plaster details (see photos).
  • Size: 32 by 24 in. (81 x 61 cm)
  • Framing: Sold framed
  • Note: Offered "in the manner of" as we doubt the work is by Ensor and thus sold without any guarantee of attribution as this work is not in Tricot. Labels verso thought to be vintage. Sold as a decorative work only. Canvas and stretchers appear to date to turn of the 20th century.

Vintage label on stretcher "Gabriel Van Thienen" refers to a restorer/framer located in Osten Belgium, where Ensor maintained his studio throughout his career. Remains of vintage gallery label with artist's name and partial title "Masquerade...".
